Vasu Exchange is a single shop, not a chain. It has no mall branches, no airport counter and no second address, which is unusual in a market where the big names run thirty or forty sites. What it has instead is a reputation for topping the Bangkok board on several currencies, and a location a short walk from a BTS station in the middle of the Sukhumvit hotel belt.

Whether it is worth going to depends on which currency you are carrying and where you are staying. The numbers below are from 2026-09-24; the site refreshes its boards every few minutes, so check Vasu’s brand page before you set off.

The shop

Address. 133-133/1 Sukhumvit Road Soi 7/1, Khlong Toei Nuea, Watthana, Bangkok 10110. Soi 7/1 is a short side street off Sukhumvit close to BTS Nana.

Hours. Monday to Friday 09:00–18:00. Saturday 09:00–17:00. Closed on Sunday. It is one of only a handful of Bangkok shops in our data that closes for the whole of Sunday, so plan around it.

Currencies. 27: US dollar, Japanese yen, Swiss franc, Australian, Canadian, New Zealand and Singapore dollars, pound, euro, Hong Kong dollar, ringgit, Danish, Norwegian and Swedish kroner, Chinese yuan, Taiwan dollar, Korean won, rupiah, dirham, Indian rupee, Philippine peso, rand, Saudi riyal, Kuwaiti and Omani currency, Vietnamese dong and Bahraini dinar. Notably it takes the three Scandinavian currencies, which only about half of Thai shops buy.

Where it ranked on 2026-09-24

The site tracked 86 shops in Bangkok that day. Vasu’s position, currency by currency:

The pattern is clear. For pounds and Singapore dollars it was the best counter in the city. For euros and won it was within a whisker of the best. For dollars it was good but seven shops paid a little more. For yen, yuan and Taiwan dollars it was mid-table.

Those are rankings on one day. The top of the Bangkok market is tightly bunched, and a shop that is first on Wednesday can be fourth on Friday without changing anything itself.

The note tiers

Like most Thai changers, Vasu pays by denomination. On 2026-09-24:

For British readers this is worth a pause. The gap between a £50 and a £20 was 0.05 baht, about 0.1%. On £1,000 that is 50 baht. Bringing fifties helps a little, but it is not the one-and-a-half to two per cent penalty that US$1 notes attract, so do not go to trouble at the bank at home to get large notes. Scottish and Northern Irish notes are a different matter; the site lists them as a separate currency that buys at a much lower rate, covered in Scottish notes and odd currencies.

Is the trip worth it?

Work it out against the alternatives rather than against the mid-market rate, because no shop pays mid-market.

Against the airport. Happy Rich at the Suvarnabhumi rail link paid 43.95 for pounds on the same day. Vasu’s 44.10 is 0.15 baht more per pound: 150 baht on £1,000, 750 baht on £5,000. If you are changing a large sum, that pays for the BTS fare many times over.

Against a good shop that is nearer. For euros the best shop in the city paid 0.05 baht more than Vasu; for dollars, 0.01 more. On US$1,000 a 0.01 gap is 10 baht. If you are staying in Silom or Pratunam and a head office is on your doorstep, crossing town to Nana for that is not a saving, it is a morning gone.

Against mid-market. Vasu’s pound rate was 0.28% under mid. That 0.28% is the cost of changing cash at the best counter in the city, and it is the benchmark every other option should be measured against.

The practical rule: if you are carrying pounds, Singapore dollars or euros and you are anywhere on the Sukhumvit line, go. If you are carrying dollars, any of the top ten will do and the nearest one wins.

When a nearer shop is fine

Who does not need to change cash at all

If you are a British traveller with a fee-free debit card and your spending is hotels, malls and restaurants, the cash you need for taxis and street food is small enough that any counter, or one ATM withdrawal at the flat 220-baht fee, is fine. The Vasu trip is for people changing several hundred pounds or more. See Wise, Revolut or a plain debit card for the card side.

Vasu’s live board, hours and map are on the shop page.
