Phuket’s resorts sit on beaches 40 km apart, and only four counters on the island publish a rate ThaiRate can track, three of them inside the Jungceylon mall in Patong. Everywhere else you change money at a bank branch, at the hotel desk, or not at all, so the beach you choose decides how much cash to bring from the airport. The money rules that apply at every one of them
- Pay the room by card and in baht. The bill is settled at checkout in baht; a card with no foreign-transaction fee is charged close to the mid-market rate. If the terminal offers to charge in your home currency, decline it. The card-or-cash guide covers the deposit hold too.
- Check whether the rate is ++. A rate quoted ”++” still has 10% service charge and 7% VAT to add, 17.7% in total. Booking.com shows the total with taxes before you confirm. See the service-charge article.
