Why island rates are worse
An island booth has no competitor fifty metres away, has to move banknotes by ferry, and knows you cannot easily walk out. Expect to lose several percent against a city rate, on top of a wider spread on anything other than dollars and euros.
Change before you go
Reached by ferry from Trat, and most people drive down from Bangkok or Pattaya. Pattaya has the densest cluster of published-rate booths in the country, so it is the obvious place to stop on the way.
